LOS ANGELES (July 19, 2007) – Denim is the fabric of choice for contemporary lifestyle, and Los Angeles is its global headquarters. Supima has chosen the Los Angeles Fashion Awards as the platform to recognize and honor the California denim designers and brands with the most impressive and consistent pursuit of excellence in design and production. Supima is the promotional organization of the US Pima Cotton industry, producers of Supima, the world’s finest cotton.

“Supima is pleased to create this award to celebrate the excellence and innovation in the denim,” said Buxton Midyette, vice president of marketing and promotions for Supima. “Designers continue to push boundaries and take denim into whole new looks, fits and end uses to meet consumer needs and desires. Supima’s unique combination of high strength and indulgent softness has made it the fiber of choice for many of these top designers. Supima is proud to partner with LA Fashion Awards to support the ongoing innovation in denim through this award.”

Supima joins Award-Level sponsors Moss Adams LLP and Wells Fargo Century in presenting a named Award at third annual Los Angeles Fashion Awards on October 26, 2007. The Orpheum Theatre in downtown LA is the official home of the 2007 LA Fashion Awards presented by Saturn. These Awards highlight the tastemakers and designers whose influence and creativity inspire the West Coast and drive worldwide trends. The slate of Nominees and Honorees in six categories will be announced at a VIP reception on July 25 at The Standard Hotel. The nominees for Supima Denim Designer of the Year will be announced at the end of August after an invitation-only Nominating Committee makes its recommendations to the ballot and votes on their top picks.

“From the founding of Levi’s at the turn of the last century, to recent branding phenoms like True Religion and perpetual visionaries like Adriano Goldschmied, California is denim’s de facto home base.” said event co-founder/producer Jennifer Üner. “We are thrilled to have Supima as our partner in celebrating denim’s finest. Supima is all about quality and they have a real respect for the those in the industry who set for themselves a higher standard.”

Supima is proud to report that our second trade show, Prefab: The Supima Premium Fabric Show, was an overwhelming success.

The show, held July 17 - 19 at New York's handsome Gotham Hall, attracted over 850 buyers from top designers and brands, including Ann Taylor, AG Adriano Goldschmied, Bills Khakis, Lilly Pulitzer, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Bahama, and Vera Wang. Representatives from apparel groups included Block Corporation, Esquel, Jones Apparel, Liz Claiborne, MAST Industries, Perry Ellis, and PVH. Retailers included Anthropologie, Bonton, JCPenney, Macy's, Talbots, and Uniqlo.

The preeminence of these attendees reflects Prefab's continued momentum in making buyers aware of our exclusive focus on premium product.

Intimate in size and high in quality, Prefab featured 15 exhibitors displaying Supima products that ranged from knit tops and fine shirting to denim and twill bottom weights. The enthusiasm was palpable as attendees chatted with exhibitors and the show's organizers, called colleagues on their cell phones to urge them to come over, commented on the lush vintage ads that were the show's design centerpiece, and queued up to attend the show's popular trend seminars by David Wolfe, Paul Pelssers, and Carolyn Egan.

Supima greatly appreciates the participation of its mill partners as well as the fantastic attendance of the buyer community. The next Prefab will take place in New York in January 2008 during the apparel fabric market week.

Supima is proud to announce yet another group of outstanding mills to participate in its Premium Fabric Show that will take place July 17th - 19th, 2007 in New York. The July Prefab show will build upon the success of the first show which occurred in January 2007. Hundreds of buyers attended the show to preview exhibitor’s collections.

The event was also very favorably covered by industry press. Prefab has become an ideal venue for manufacturers to offer their Supima fabrics to product-focused buyers. Exhibitors will be showing a broad range of Supima fabrics which will include knits, woven shirting, twills and denim. Exhibitors will include a balanced mix of product from Asia, Europe, the US and Western Hemisphere.

This diversity of product and country of origin should allow the show to be the “one-stop” solution for upscale fabric buyer. Just like for the first Prefab show, Supima has organized a very aggressive marketing campaign to promote attendance of the fabric show by top buyers. Early in June, Supima began employing a combination of print ads and web banners in Women’s Wear Daily and the Daily News Record to attract the attention of readers of the leading fashion trade publications.

In addition to the list of previous attendees, Supima also has a mailing list of over 5,000 top buyers who will be contacted directly. Supima greatly appreciates the participation and support of our exhibitors and looks forward to another successful show in July.
